In the glass industry, oxygen is used for oxycombustion in melting furnaces. Oxycombustion allows higher temperatures to be reached in the furnaces while reducing the emission of certain nitrogenous pollutants. In the case of oxycombustion, oxygen is used as an oxidant at a purity of over 90% instead of only air with an oxygen purity of about 20%.
